Microsoft Office 365 v16.20

I have 2 Macs, a 2014 iMac and a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Both are running the latest version of MacOS Mojave 10.14.2.

A few days ago the iMac updated Microsoft Office to 16.20, which was pretty cool since it supports Dark Mode, which I love. On the MacBook Pro, running the same version of MacOS, Office has not updated and the updater says that Office 16.19 is the most recent version.

I'm not understanding why? Any insights?

16.20 will release today. You must have the Microsoft AutoUpdater on the iMac set to install one of the insider builds.

Keep in mind that MS often employs rolling updates, we see it with Windows and with the Office suite on both OS platforms.

Also, I'm on the Fast Ring with the Mac suite - there were updates issued last Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, and again this morning. IMO they might have discovered some bugs as I've not seen Mac Office updates show up that quickly. They also issued/pushed a security update to OneNote via the MAS this morning.

Thanks, I'm aware of that. I'm the only one using the Insider builds and only on my personal workstations, the other 30-odd employees on macOS and 30-odd employees are all on a standard push. The Insider builds are on a rolling update schedule just as the normal builds are. Clear as mud, eh? Updates are available, still means pretty much nothing - my MS rep emails me weekly, the notices always include lines like (a quote, word for word): "Most updates to PowerPoint and Word will begin rolling out to Office 365 subscribers on Windows today." I get email updates like that for WinOS and the Office suite updates, and the updates per workstation roll out over the course of 7-10 days, it's blathered about in MS's blog posts.

MS makes their updates available via their respective portals when the "release" is posted, that doesn't mean squat relative to their AutoUpdate schedule. Over and out.

Thank You for the responses. After reading the first few responses I went back into the updater and noticed that the iMac was on the Insider while the MacBook was not. They are both now on the same version. Appreciate the info!

With a max of 4Mbs download speed, auto-updates of anything are off the menu. So I was happy to see links for downloading the update packages on the release notes page

But the links for 16.20 seem to be broken. Is there another way to get to these update packages?

There's a sort of a master index of Office for Mac downloads here: https://macadmins.software
All of the links point back to Microsoft, and this site is managed by a Microsoft employee, so there are no concerns about legitimacy.
Do note that if you have a small of Macs, using the Autoupdater may actually be a smaller download as the autoupdater downloads incremental updates rather than these full updaters.

Thanks for the link. We only have 2 Macs running Office 365, so we’ll just use the “Auto Updater” set to Manual Update and hope the release notes page gets fixed.

FWIW The reason we never set any software to Auto Update isn’t the size of the update. It’s controlling WHEN the update happens. The worst case is when we are streaming video in the evening and some auto update kicks in and saturates the available bandwidth — like Apple’s inconsiderate auto download of an iOS update during prime time
