This is a record profit for Microsoft. All without any mobile hardware, XBox 3rd to PS4/Switch, no smart speakers, no smart watch. Basically no real consumer play at all.

Azure grew YOY 98%, that must be their fastest growing business with seemingly no end. Essentially Microsoft has fully turned into a business-only company that pays lip service to consumers.

I even sold my XBox One recently. I use Windows 10 and Office but I can't think of any MS hardware I own. Sad days!

At any point in time did Microsoft have significant hardware revenue? Good keyboards and mice, but those were noise on the balance sheet.

Did Xbox generate significant hardware revenue, or was it a loss leader for game sales?

Sad days!
Why is making 7.5 billions considsered sad days

Throughout MS's history they were known and made money as a software company, yes there were some abberations like the Ms mouse, but they were known as a software company, and such they're making money hand over fist. I'd say a 7 billion dollar profit is something to be celebrated ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why does this matter?

I think many things have changed at Microsoft and it's partly due to their innovation.
Indeed, Nadella has done a lot of good things, and re-focused MS, back with their core products/services and provided vision to follow. They're more proactive then re-active at this stage.
