In iPadOS 18 Beta, I noticed that Microsoft Teams now supports an external video camera. Is this a feature of iPadOS 18 or a newer version of Microsoft Teams? Apple's FaceTime has supported this since iPadOS 17.

But I noticed that iPadOS 18 now supports more different external cameras. Including in FaceTime. This is definitely an iPadOS thing.

I recently tried an external camera that’s now supported in Microsoft Teams. When Face ID is required, the transmission of the external camera is momentarily interrupted. This is understandable and not a result of Teams. Is this also the case with FaceTime?

Interesting; that's always annoyed me with iPad and Android tablets that you couldn't use an external camera - I like to use my tablet for note-taking and viewing material for meeting and have Teams on the external display when using it.

Does an external webcam also work when using it on Stage Manager / external screen?

I just upgraded my iPad to iPadOS 18 RC and also updated Teams but my external camera (Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam) is still not working. I have it plugged into the hub on my Pro Display XDR. Teams on the iPad only uses the internal camera. When I move the Teams app to the display, it then renders the view from the internal camera sideways rather than using the external camera. Any ideas?

Yes, I am only using Stage Manager. I have not tested it without Stage Manager because I have two different HP 34-inch monitors with built-in cameras.

Currently, I am utilizing only Stage Manager. It may be the cause of the issue. I have tested it on two built-in cameras and one video camera via Blackmagic ATEM. Furthermore, I am using the latest version of Microsoft Teams.

Thanks, I’m using Stage Manager and the latest version of Teams as well. I wonder if my camera isn’t “certified”. Is there an official supported list for Teams?

Thanks, FaceTime has always worked properly with the external camera (even in iPadOS 17).

Could you please specify the iPad model you are using? I am currently using an 12.9“ iPad Pro with the M1 chip.

I’ve tried both the 11” iPad Pro M2 (2022) and the 11” iPad Pro M4 (2024) with the Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam and Apple Pro Display XDR.

Is the Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam not a USB 3.0 camera? Does the Apple Pro Display XDR still have USB 3.0 output with an iPad? I understand that it has with Macs, as they support DSC, but I am not sure about iPadOS.
(Now I am treading on very thin technical ground, as I mentioned earlier. For me, it is working on three cameras. However, they are certainly only USB 2.0 or this USB video device class 1.5 device)
Try connecting the camera directly to the iPad. It must also work with only one screen.
It is not possible to select which camera to use in Teams. The camera that is the last one connected to the iPad will be used. I believe this is also true for FaceTime.

This video conferencing setup was established during the COVID-19 pandemic using spare parts. Better video quality.

The Nikon D5 as the external camera, renowned for its exceptional image quality. The Neumann TLM 103 microphone is employed for the audio. The Apogee DUET 3 audio interface facilitates the connection between the iPad and the microphone (48V). The AKG K872 headphones are used for monitoring audio during video conference (not depicted in the image, as the Genelec 8010A as Near-Field monitor).
