Microsoft Teams working?

Anyways, does Teams work just fine in the new MBP 2021? Video calls, screen sharing, etc?

Teams has been working flawlessly on my base M1 16".

Yes, I was on teams for a good chunk of this afternoon and it works fine (well, as well as it ever has - Teams is a horrid app and I can’t wait for a properly native version).

Thank you guys for the response. I'm panicking because I need to use it and people on Reddit says it's crashing on video calls etc on Monterey.

And since my MBP is still on the way. I can't test it.

I have been on Teams calls off and on all day yesterday and today on my new MBP14 with zero issues. Runs much cooler than my old i9 16".

Is the performance better than running it native on Intel i9? Since teams is so trash in performance and ram/battery usage

I used Teams all day yesterday with no problem on my 16" M1 Max. If anything, it's less buggy than the M1 MBA I've been using this past year. The main difference from my i9 (which I sold about a year ago) is that both M1s are completely silent, while the i9 always had at least a faint fan noise.

M1 Air went to throttling in long calls with many video streams, M1 16 has no problems, but gets warm..
Also I spent almost the whole day today on Teams calls with the M1 16 (poor me), and the battery was almost dead after 8 hours of work, so Teams is really keeping that CPU busy.

Wow thanks for the info. 8 hours is still okay I guess considering constant Teams usage?

I recently transitioned from a 2017 MacBook Pro to a 2021. All the settings were migrated through the Migration Assistant. I could not get it to start up properly. Erratic behavior.

I ended up trashing everything with “teams” in the filename inside of ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ ~/Library/Preferences/ and ~/Library/Containers/ . After that it started working. I have not had an opportunity to try a video call. This afternoon, when I tried and ran into the aforementioned problems, I ended up doing the Teams video call inside of Safari.

Current version is 1.5.00.8073. There does not appear to be a way to check for updates inside of the app. There is also no version in the macOS App Store.

On the M1s, you have two options. Download Teams from Microsoft or use the web app. What you will find, is that when using Edge (I know, but bear with me for a moment), thanks to it being M1 native (Teams is not), teams just flies.

And on top of it, there is way to "pin" Teams web app (PWA) onto launchpad, so it behaves like an app.

Teams over Edge has also one benefit, it works normally with Logitech Brio webcams (the native Teams app sends the lowest resolution possible, so video is cr@p).
Unfortunately I can't use Teams over Edge/Chrome reliably, the video/audio gets interrupted randomly after 10-15-20 minutes (never happens with native app)

Teams is working on M1 Macs, however since it's based on Electron and the app itself consumes tons of CPU cycles and memory.

During video calls I hit between 2.5GB - 3GB with two windows open (one call and general chat). According to Microsoft they are going to release a Universal App later this year.

If you don't spend much time doing calls, I'd recommend using a Edge or Chrome web app. However the web app has tons of issues during video calls so stay away from it if you spend the day doing that.

Teams is working better on M1 Macs than on Windows or/and Intel Macs. Much better. There is no fan noise, no crashes and in general the app is working. Of course as others already mentioned, it would be great if Microsoft created a real Mac native app..(but the same problem applies to Windows too)

Just to note, I'm on meetings 6 hours/day and have zero issues with the Web app. I however use Edge for the web app exclusively and use Safari for all the other bits.

For me the BEST solution was to download an app called Webcatalog <https://webcatalog.io/webcatalog/>. It lets you run Teams (and any other web apps) in a dedicated container/browser. It has lots of options to customise the apps, Teams works perfectly and Webcatalog allows the first 3 apps for free.

I spent weeks trying out different combinations of Teams, browsers, web-app makers etc. and this was by far the most “Mac-like” solution I found

Can you use the blurry background and noise suppresion feature? Edge app doesn't allow it....

Yes, absolutely. No problem to blur the background or add in a background picture. Have never seen the option for noise reduction. Where can you see that?

Noise suppression is not available in the web-app version (incl. Webcatalog). In the native app, this option is in the Device Options menu (though in the x86 Teams you could select multiple options for noise-suppression strength, in the M1 version only one is available - on/off... and compared to the Krisp app I am using for suppressing background noise, the Teams feature is very poor...)

There is an Apple Silicon Beta version on MS's website. Ever since switching to that, I've noticed my 14" Pro runs a bit more smoothly with Teams in the background (e.g. this widely discussed problem disappeared)
