Since upgrading to Sequoia on launch day, Microsoft Word crashes on opening an existing file or creating a new one. Other MS Office apps work. I've been searching online a plenty since last week and found suggestions such as uninstalling and reinstalling, which I've tried following the detailed instructions from Microsoft and also using CleanMyMac to uninstall and nothing seems to work. Is this something anyone else has experienced and does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm using an iMacPro and waiting for a the M4 Studio next year before upgrading... Thanks.

Just wondering; Is it Office 365, Office 2021; Office 2024?

just installed Office 2024 on my Wife's 2017 iMac and it required updates right away?

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you mean a new Apple user account?

Edit: if you did mean a new Apple account, then I've just tried that and still get the same issue. Thanks though. Somthing I hadn't tried!

Started when I had Office 365 but I've got the other two as well and each has the same problem (removed the license and tried all three separately).

i think @zevrix suggedted to create a new user account on your Mac - not a new Apple ID. Log in as that new user on your system and try to run MS Office.

EDIT: if Office crashes have a look in the crash reporter log in the Console.

I have had zero issues with MS Word. Originally, I was on Office 2021. A couple of days ago, I upgraded to Office 2024. Before the install I uninstalled Office 2021. Upon install I discovered that none of the components were current versions. I updated everything to Version 16.89.1. Have had no issues before the upgrade or since👍🏻

as @Slartibart already mentioned, i mean a new user account in System Settings > Users & Groups
Thanks, yes, that's what I did (sorry, should have been clearer when I said "Apple account", I meant new user account) and no luck. Will have a look in the crash reporter but the crash logs that MS Word gave out was gibberish to me!

Here we go, see attached, it's huge! Thanks for the continued help :)

------

Just a shot in the dark: do you have any macros in your files? The log mentions VisualBasic immediately preceding the crash, which can be related to macros (but can also be totally unrelated).

Hello. Thanks for having a look at the log for me. No, I dont think I've got any macros installed (trouble is I cant check for certain as it keeps crashing on. Unless there's another way to check that you know?). I used to have an Adobe PDF maker macros installed years ago, but I uninstalled that a while back as it was causing some issues. I've tried to search for the file and can't find it on my mac. Appreciate you helping!

this seems to be a more common problem. According to Microsoft (and some user reports 🙃) completely uninstalling Office (please follow that procedure) and then reinstalling solves this.
Yes, that's what my (amateur) sleuthing has found! I've already done that 'complete uninstall' a couple of times, but have just given it another go for old times sake and still not sorted it :-(. Thanks for the suggestion though

Just finished upgrading to macOS Sequoia 15.0.1. No issue found for the Word app. The version number is 16.84 (24041420)

I seem to have sorted it :). Was trolling through the available options prior to word crashing and found this, which is an Adobe add-in. Deleted the file and word seems to be working ok again! Thanks for all your help once again.
