I have upgraded to Yosemite from my Mountain lion early today just because i couldnt use Microsoft office in the previous version. I expected it would work in this upgrade, but it is depressing to see that Yosemite too has the same issue of showing me "installation encountered an error" and "a version of the software required to install this update is not found" after using different versions of Office. Pls help me solve this.

I have used Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 with no problems in Lion, Mavericks and Yosemite. I just did a new Word document as a test and saved it, before posting this.

Is Word already installed on your computer or is that where it is giving you the error? Were your updates done before installing Yosemite?

I recently changed my hard disk and they gave me mountain lion but office installation was failed. I read through few post in a forum that it happens with mountain lion. So i tried for this upgrade. I did everything properly and everything work fine but Office installation. I tried different versions of office too...

Are you installing Office from a disc or online?

Do you have any other issues after the Yosemite install?

I downloaded the file from the browser and tried installing within my internal hard disk.
I had a problem with the charger, for a time being it was not showing me the red LED, but now it works fine. And when connected to internet browser worked for 10-15 seconds and went offline, now rectified. No more problems.
Thanks.

Microsoft Word 2011 works just fine in Yosemite.

Yep, works just fine for me. I even have MS Office 2008 still running on my 09 MBP. I keep it around to see how long MS will continue to support it on new versions of OS X

Do you still have the packaging with your product key? You may need to enter it in order for Microsoft to realize you legitimately purchased it. Sometimes things get wonky if you install a new hard drive or wipe your hard drive and restore from anything other than a Time Machine backup.

I'm no expert, but you should either restore from a Time Machine backup of your previous hard drive or use the MS Office disk and product key to reinstall. That might fix your issue, but I'm not sure. Won't know until you try though. Usually Microsoft products get less b****y after you give them the product key to prove you bought it legitimately.

You may need to completely remove MS Office and reinstall it. I just did a clean install of Office 2011 which I had purchased with Snow Leopard, and it works fine on Yosemite.
