Hi All,

I migrated my neighbor to this machine after she was having issues still being on XP. She's rather cheap and opted to go with this because it was only $200.00 and I feel bad because I recommended it. The computer ran perfectly until recently, when it all of sudden decides to power off after about 10 minutes.

I burn-tested this for almost two weeks and had no issues while migrating her email and crap and she's had it for almost a month now.

How do I diagnose this?

Attached is a screen grab of a Console screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OS is the latest, minus the iTunes update I saw today. 2GB memory.

The 2007 iMac had an issue with the power controller, I've had mine fail once and had it replace. I think the power controller has an issue with heat as it was much more likely to fail and perform an uncommanded shutdown from windows than OS X, despite running fan controller software.

Thanks for the replies, it is much appreciated.

After many fruitless searches I ran across a couple of people that fixed theirs with a new power supply. I found a used one on eBay for under $30 shipped vs. $130 for a new one at iFixit, and it's returnable if that does not fix the issue.

I'll update this thread again when I get it installed.

Thanks Again,

Tim

Well I'm happy to report the new power supply has resolved the issue and the job was much easier than I expected.

Cheers,

Tim

From the thread title, my immediate suspicion was power supply. Glad to hear you got it resolved, good job on the fix!

Thanks!

I found out when I picked up the computer that she usually put a towel over the top of computer so she doesn't see any lights, even if there are none. I think this is because I mentioned that I keep mine on, all the time.

I've properly schooled her and I think we'll be good now.
