I have a Mid 2010 mac Mini with 8GB RaM, and OS X 10.7.2 was on 10.6.0. The mini is very slow, and I don't do much on it, even safari I get the spinning wheel.

Have a look at Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities /) and select All Processes and sort by CPU to see what the culprit may be.
Also check the "System Memory" tab to see what your "Page ins:", "Page outs:" and "Swap used:" are.

image below uses sorting by CPU as an example

And if there is no process or RAM usage visible, that could explain the slowdown, then it is time to test the HDD.
Try AJA System Test yet to benchmark your HDD and report back. If that application does not work on your system partition, use Xbench and its Disk Test feature.

Here we go. Looks good?

Memory is not your issue because 8GB of ram is plenty for Lion.

Might be time to consider installing an SSD. :D

ocz vertex ssds have had problems the ssd may be doing it.

pull the ssd and see if the beachballing lessens .

I have 320gb hdd 2010 machines and they have less problems then you describe. My guess is the ssd.

did you do a fresh install and what is the osx 10.6.8 or what? Also do you have lots of gear plugged in?

so you put in lion and it is slow try going back to snow and see if it is faster

What kind of problem with ocz ssd?

Go back to snow leopard. What brand of ram is installed? Apple products are finicky when it comes to SSD's. Trim seems to be a royal PITA. Not sure but think apple uses particular SSD's to support trim. Anyone know for sure?

From what I've heard, just their factory installed SSD's support trim. I used trim enabler on a Samsung SSD in my Mini and haven't had any issues for months now.

Is trim enabler a driver or software from Samsung to enable trim? Considering installing a SSD in my 2010 mini since the prices are dropping. Just waiting for at least a 500GB to drop in my price range.

I had the Vertex 2 back in the day and I returned it after 2 days because of freezes and beach balling.
It looks like most people are happy with the Crucial m4, maybe it's time to sell your Vertex to a PC rocking friend and swap it for something that works.
