I’m having a problem getting the system to fully recognize the SSD. I purchased a compatible OWC SSD from OWC's website.

I mounted the SSD to the mount tray they provided. With the Mac Pro powered off and unplugged, I installed the tray into bay 2. It went in smoothly and connected well.

Upon booting up the Mac Pro (still from the original HDD), the Mac sees and correctly identifies the SSD if I look in ‘About This Mac -> Overview -> System Report -> SATA’ in the Serial-ATA Device tree section (ie. it sees it as an OWC 6G SSD, et c), but it doesn’t show up under ‘About This Mac -> Storage’, nor does it show up under Disk Utility.

Booting into recovery mode and running Disk Utility from there doesn't yield any better results.

What am I doing wrong?

The biggest mistake so far I can see is that you choose OWC. Anyway, you better contact their CS now, either ask for a full refund or a replacement. Of course, they may know how you can fix the problem.

Here's a couple of pertinent screenshots:

I don't know why Disk Utility won't see it. I agree with h9826790, call OWC and let them earn their money. It doesn't appear that the SSD is failing, exactly, but I'm not sure what is going on.
