I have a base mid-2010 mini (the last with the Super drive) that's still running OS 10.6.8. I mainly use it for writing, using Word. I'd like to bring it up to Yosemite. What's the least time consuming process, and how do I get Yosemite? If I rook it to the Apple Store, would they do it? I'm also thinking of upgrading to an SSD. But also, is it really worth it because of the mini's age, even though it works perfectly. Never had a problem. Any opinions most appreciated.

Your mini should run Yosemite just fine. Just download it from the app store. IMO I don't think you need to upgrade the computer itself considering what you are using it for. Go for the SSD.
