Mid 2014 MBP & Big Sur Now.. w - 11.1 ?

Hey Guys, now that 11.1 Big Sur is out. Hss anyone updated their Mid 2014 MBP with out any issues? I am currently on Mojave and would love to go to 11.1 but I dont want to brick my laptop. Whats the best way to update from Mojave to Big Sur.. Catilina then to 11.1 or use a USB bottable 11.1 ? thanks!

Updated my spare 13” Mid 2014 Pro to 11.1 - no issues upgrading!

I would agree with FNH15 ( keep in mind he/she mentions it was a Spare MBP 2014) - I don't thing there are really any performance issues - IMHO - Big Sur is an improvment over Catalina and I would migrate strait to to Big Sur ( by pass the Catalina install)

However both Catalina and Big Sur do not suport 32 bit applications and you may find out much of your software may not work or require a "Paid Upgrade" - example - Microsoft office - Adobe apps - of course if you are paying for subscription apps - you may be covered for this.

iTunes to Music is a major change and worth checking out in advance - if you have a large music library

Another option is to install Big Sur on a bootable / external drive ( clone with CCC or install BS on external and migrate from Mojave) - this will allow you to try Big Sur out and still keep Mlojave running on your MBP 2014 untill you "Vet Things Out"

And of course - Make a Back Up before you begin

Upgraded directly from Catalina -> Big Sur via Software Update. The OS has been through every major software revision since OS X 10.9; 11.0 is much smoother than 10.15. If this is your main machine, backup!
All of the other suggestions by @mikzn are well taken, too!
