I'm about to buy the base model iMac but had a few questions hopefully someone can answer, thanks in advance.

According to Wikipedia the base model is actually the Mid 2017 with an added SSD in leu of the 5400 Sata. Can anyone confirm what type of SSD is inside? Is it Sata, PCIe, or Soldered onto the board? Not that it matters, I'm just curious. As well, Wikipedia lists the Mid 2017 as supporting High Sierra, which would make me happy as I really need the 32bit support and prefer HS over Mojave (also 32bit and the last). I am well aware High Sierra is now out of support (Nov 2020) but that's OK with me, no top secret level data is being stored on it 😁 plus I'm fairly security conscious. But if anyone can confirm it will support HS that would be awesome.

Thanks!

The SSD that came with the 2017 27" 5K Retina iMac is PCIe and is not soldered to the logic board. And yes, the 2017 iMac will support High Sierra since it originally shipped with Sierra.

Thanks, I guess I should have specified I meant the 21.5" base model. It's the current base model, but really its' just the Mid 2017 21.5" with the SSD. The original 21.5 base 2017 had a 2.5" Sata drive, so I'm curious if Apple just dropped in a 2.5" Sata or actually put a proper PCIe SSD in it.
As for the OS supports, that's good news so thanks!.

If it came from Apple with an SSD already installed, then it was PCIe and not soldered. There were actually two different 21.5" models that year; 4K Retina and standard. All three iMac models that year shipped with Sierra.
