Might & Magic X: Legacy has just been released for Mac, Directly through Ubisoft.

Steam Link: http://store.steampowered.com/app/238750/

Just after we all had a discussion about classic RPGs, this gets released.

Going back to its roots in gameplay and mechanics Legacy, true to its name takes places after the events of Might & Magic Heroes VI, where you will play a party of four adventurers entangled in intrigue and political machinations unfolding in and around Karthal. The city, on the verge of secession, is prey to competing factions vying for its control. Your actions will determine the fate of the city.

Might & Magic X Legacy is an authentic solo experience in the classic first-person RPG genre. Create and lead your group into an exciting open world and battle mythical powerful creatures while collecting ancient magical treasures!

Thanks for the heads up, thing is I bought the PC version and play it under Bootcamp and they are not doing what places like GoG do in that I have to buy the Mac version even though I own a hard copy for PC :(

I've been waiting for this release. Hopefully the Mac version came out well. I wish they'd do Heroes VI for Mac.

If you bought it on Steam you'd have both the Windows and Mac version.
You should see if you can activate the disc on steam.

It's rather good, I've never played a Might & Magic game before, and now I want the entire collection. :D

You can get Might and Magic I through VI in a collection from GOG. VII, VIII and IX are sold separately.

In my opinion, VI is the best of them all, but I haven't tried X yet. It's on my Steam wishlist, and was on sale (last week!!!!!), but I didn't pick it up because I was waiting for the Mac Port. Damn!

If you buy the Digital Deluxe edition of the game on Steam it includes a copy of Might and Magic VI. It's another 5 bucks for that. I forget what other goodies it may include but would be worth checking out.

Nope, did not work, oh well never mind would have been tied to their DRM had it of worked, so no great loss really.

Yeah, it just kind of appeared. Just a tweet and that was it.

That's a pity. It'll probably in the steam summer sale for barely anything if you want it then.

Hmmm, you know, I never played any of the Might & Magic series. When I was younger, my Mac's were never powerful enough to run them...maybe I should take a look.

Of course, with the pile of games I have yet to work through, I'm not sure I should even bother. After about a year of struggling episodically, I have finally hit level 7 in Gothic, and I'm not continuously dying *every* time I meet with a monster...so hey, I'm on a roll!

This was my first M&M game, and I really like it. Pit lives up to the name of legacy, in playing like a proper old school RPG.

Gothic is a series I've never played either, might have to look into it more.

I still haven't played X... might still wait a while. I still love 3, and the 4+5 combo the best. Started to lose interest more and more each release up to 9.

Gothic 1 & 2 are some of the best games ever made. You should consider giving them a roll ASAP.

I'm finding Gothic quite refreshing. Although the graphics are a little dated, I don't mind because the story sucks you right in, the NPC's seem real, and you have to constantly balance what they want with what you need.

Holy cow, this game does not hold your hand...it is very gritty. In a way, it is kind of like the game I wished Skyrim was more like.

Re: M&M, I was reading it has combat that is turn-based? If so, those usually don't interest me. I'm more into the action-combat style.

One of the reasons why I like the Gothic series (and to a slightly lesser extent, Risen) better than The Elder Scroll games is because it does a much better job of presenting what feels like a living, breathing world. NPCs aren't just there to fight you or give you information. They have their own personalities, their own thoughts, their own agendas. It's not just about getting the biggest sword or the coolest armor to kill the biggest monsters around. You have to make friends and integrate yourself into the little societies around you to get anywhere.

I wish more RPGs followed Gothic's lead.

I'll be waiting for the GoG summer sale, or Steam sale. :D
Then I'll have to fire up WINE for them. They do look interesting.

I thought they all were Turn based really, including the Heroes series of them.
It's not an issue for me always, it certainly depends on the game :)

You just missed Gothic I-III on sale yesterday...I got it for 3.99 I think, and boy, in hindsight I would have paid full price if I knew it was this good. The reviews on GOG are pretty on-target: Tough, but worth it.

BTW, I've been running it in WINE, and it works perfectly (on my 2009 MBA, & my 2009 Mac Mini), so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Bought the game, played for about 4 hours, loved every second of it. It's great. But, it is bugged to the point of being completely broken. Two of the dungeons that you need to clear to advance the story crash your mac 100% of the time upon entry. Game over man, game over!

Waste of money at this time

Yeah, I splurged. I got a couple of hours out of it before I reached a point where it froze upon entering a new area. I made it in one time out of about 10 tries so far. And, reporting the bug at UBISOFT? It's not listed as a supported product. So, you can't report bugs.

So, don't waste your money. It might get fixed. But, like a few games I got from Steam that have lots of reports of issues on Mac that never got updated…I wouldn't expect it.

You have been running Might & Magic X Legacy in Wine ?
If I have read your post right, where can I get the Wineskin for it from ? I ask because I am rubbish
at anything other than a real basic Wineskin.

Sorry, I was carrying on a side conversation about Gothic, and running that in WINE.

Definitely not Might & Magic...

OK, as I thought, thought I had found my answer to not buying another copy of Might & Magic X Legacy for the Mac on top of the PC version.

Yes, it's fairly buggy. I can't enter a dungeon now. I click the enter action and nothing happens.

Disappointing, but expected since Ubisoft themselves ported the game. Doesn't look like they have a lot of Experience just yet.

That is very disappointing but I hope they will fix it yet. I was thinking of picking this up during the upcoming Summer sale but I may just put it off if they haven't fixed the issues with it. It's pretty bad when gameplay is broken to this extent. It makes me wonder what sort of quality assurance existed during development.

With the selling of alphas, betas and the like as "early access" for full price I don't think they care anymore.
Quality is rare these days, and the prevalence of launch ASAP and patch later is everywhere.

In the end it's the consumers that are to blame, and it'll probably take another games industry bubble to burst before things change again.
