Hey,

I'm thinking of switching my windows machine for the 24" $1,800 iMac. At this time i already have 2x24" samsung monitors.

What do i need to run 2 extra monitors on eithor side (3 including the iMac) and how much am i looking at?

There's an adapter available that help you run 2 monitors from the DVI on the MacBook Pro. It's not that great and kinda expensive (250$, it's actually a video card in a box).

The new iMacs use mini display port, you can get an adapter that get you DVI, but then again it's another 100$ to add to it.

If you want 3 monitors, the best you can get for that is the Mac Pro. The iMacs is a terrible choice for that. You should look into buying a old gen refurb, if you don't mind having old (8800GT) video cards.

the best way to run an additional 2 screens on an iMac is to buy a USB to DVI adapter and run the 3rd screen that way. It won't manage 3D apps, but will be fine for web/text/photo and video work.

Google search, Sparkle X-LINK, this one is compatible with MAC OS and is USB powered.
