Hello dear friends;

This morning, i turned on my iMac, and my mighty mouse failed to co-operate with my movements; it is DEAD... the red LED still lights up, but no movements appear on the screen!

is it actually dead? or is there something i can do?

thanks, and happy new year!

It take it your talking about the wireless mighty mouse? Mine has a green light, maybe the red light means yours is low on battery?

The old wireless MM still used Optical sensors (hence the red light.) If it is wireless, perhaps replace the batteries. Also hook up a wired mouse, and go into your prefs, and make sure it is paired.

If it's wired, try unplugging/plugging it back in.

nah i think he has an optical mighty mouse which has a visual coloured laser. the wireless mighty mice have an invisible laser. OP have you tried another USB port?

No reason to assume wireless since the OP said nothing about it. Further more the talk of a red light strongly suggests it is a regular wired mouse.

As others have said try a different USB port.

You may also want to try the mouse on another computer.

Make sure you check your mouse settings in sys prefs.

If you do all that and still no luck, you might want to give apple a call if you are still under warranty.

Otherwise it might be time for you to buy a new one.

hi, sorry i forgot to say if it was wireless or not:

it is WIRED...

i have tried restarting, and a different USB port... and still nothing

the mac is less than a month old, so i think i had better give apple a call;

pitty they wont open until tomorrow

apple will tell you to try all the the things that we have already said so just try them again and hopefully it will start working. if it doesnt i am sure they will happily replace it. or you could try another mouse if you want. you dont have to use the mighty mouse. i personally use and love my wireless mighty mouse. these logitech mice are nice.
