I have what I think is called the "mighty mouse" for my 24" imac. It is the wireless one that my family bought with the computer but we have problems with it constantly. about once a week it will just stop working and then will take about 10 min. to reconnect to the computer. On top of that the scroll will not work sometimes. The mouse will move around and click but the scroll will either not work at all or it wont scroll one direction or something. Its all completely random. Any ideas of what could be wrong? Im pretty tired of dealing with it and the genius bar says that I need to replicate the problem for them to do anything...

P.S.- not sure if this is the right forum to post this in... this isnt like most of the car forums I use, so if im in the wrong spot, would a moderator please move it to the correct place? Thanks.

Sounds like it is defective. Call Applecare and get them to replace it.

People have been complaining about the Mighty Mouse for a while now. You're definitely not the only one who this has happened to.

re: scroll ball

take a microfiber cloth, place it in your hand

with your other hand, turn the MM over and scroll over it vigorously

works everytime for me. of course, it really shouldn't mess up to begin with, but that's the mighty mouse for ya.

i would actually be quite exciting if one of those rumors you hear for these big Apple shows was a MM refresh

I think the Mighty Mouse has never really worked perfectly for anyone. The scroll ball seems to get gunked up frequently. I just replaced my wireless Mighty Mouse with a Logitech VX Nano mouse, and so far I am very pleased.

I got a new mouse from Apple within 48 hours, 1966Mustang. BTW, Im a big fan of Mustangs.

Thanks guys. Ill try to see if Apple will give me a new mouse, and if not ill just get one that isnt made by apple!

Here is my stang:

Thanks for the help and the quick response, ill be back the next time I have a question!

We use all might mice and the only problems we've had have been occasional scroll with a few of them. It has always been fixed with a simple cleaning as described above.

I'm the same. A little wipe or air can to the scroll wheel does the trick. Every now and the rate at which the cursor moves gets REALLY slower for no reason. But that's maybe 6 times in the past year. Gets fixed with a reboot. After trying another wireless mouse on here, I don't think I'll ever go with anything else.
