does anyone know if it's possible to migrate from mobileme TO gmail? I tried using gmail's inbuilt importer, but it kept saying my email/password combination is wrong (I'm certain it's right). I used the following settings:

Enter the password for "blank123"@me.com:
Password: "password"
Could not validate this combination of email address and password.

Gmail couldn't identify your POP server. Please enter your POP server information below.

POP username: "blank123"
POP server: mail.me.com
Port: 110 Edit

Does anyone know of a way to get gmail's built-in importer to migrate mobileme's emails? And if not, I have all my mobileme stuff downloaded to Mail.app - is there a way to upload those to gmail?

set your gmail up as a imap account. I only did this in thunderbird but it should work with mail. if all you mobleme email is in mail create the gmail account making sure you choose imap (not auto setup) once the account is setup drag you folders onto the gmail account and they should upload.

thanks. I'll try it right away. However, from reading online guides about setting up gmail imap in mail.app, it seems that it can really complicate mail.app... do you have any experience with the setup? I'd be more than willing to switch to thunderbird for the purposes of this transition if needed.

Apple disabled POP access on all MobileMe accounts created after the migration from .Mac > MobileMe (this is why it isn't working).

You can request Apple (via MM customer chat) grant you POP access, or you can set it to automatically forward all of your e-mail to Gmail. The latter is the easiest way but I have POP access on my MM account just in case.

Gmail is a great e-mail system (I, too, use it religiously), but if you plan on sending e-mail from your MM e-mail address through Gmail be aware of one caveat.

When configuring Gmail to send e-mail as your @me.com account, make sure to use MobileMe's SMTP server (smtp.me.com). Otherwise, if you use Gmail to send the e-mail, it may show as "user@gmail.com on behalf of user@me.com" in Outlook. Google did this to prevent spammers, but if you use the SMTP server, it will not do this and will send fine.

PS: Forgot to mention... if you do plan to use Mail.app to upload all of your e-mail from MM to Gmail, do it in small batches at first. Google may lock you out if you are uploading/transferring a ton of data at once. Google says you can do this but warns against it.

I uploaded mine in small batches and didn't have a problem.
