So we just got a new imac 27"... my husband replaced the 24" imac with the new 27" imac. That left me with the 24" imac to replace my macbook pro that I was using as my desktop computer.

The migration from the old imac to the brand new imac was easy and flawless..

The migration from my macbook to the previously used 24" imac was not.

It ended up creating a new user instead of replacing the user (that option was for some reason greyed out).

So now i have my husband's old user account on there and my new user account.

The good thing is that BOTH user accounts use the same applications folder so the applications that my husband had and the ones that I had are being used on both users.

Basically, i NEED to delete the old user account (my husband's account). I hate multiple users and I wish that it never became a staple in OS design (but thats just me).

The major concern here is.. if i delete the user that was originally the application from that original user, will it remove it from the applications folder?

I know that when i delete the user i loose all of the files and settings, but what about the applications?

So for example, my husband had a program called File Wrangler on his user on this computer. The laptop I had migrated from did not have this application. When i view the applications, i can see it in both users..If i delete the user, will it delete this application?

thanks in advance for any help.. I really need it. Its killing me to know that ihave another user on my computer (i know, a little OCD)

all files are removed from that side and are on my new user's side. all settings from my laptop are now on my side.. just need to remove the user and make sure the applications stay

If the Applications folder you are referring to is Machintosh HD/Applications then you can delete the old user account. The point of having applications separate from the user account is precisely to be able to add and remove users while the system and apps stay the same for everyone.

When you delete the old user all data in Macintosh HD/Users/*olduser* will be deleted. Everything else will be fine.

I figured as much, thanks for just giving me the shove to do it. I was a tad scared.. never had to deal with multiple users before
