Hi All,

First post - long time mac user.

I have a new rMBP arriving tomorrow.

I am currently using a mid 2010 C2D MBP that I have the Yosemite public beta on.

I have time machine back ups and was planning on using these when my new laptop is here for migration.

I have read that this may cause issues if trying to use my yosemite back up onto my new mavericks MBP ?

Would I be better off downloading the Public Beta onto my new machine before trying to migrate my back up data over?

Thanks in advance!

Yowch!

I'd personally say if you knew you were gonna be doing this you should have waited to install the beta or installed it on a separate partition. Data Migration COULD work but it's unlikely and things may well go wrong. As for Time Machine backups though it's all worth a shot. I wouldn't upgrade that machine to the beta as you'll want at least one of them on the tried and tested version.

Time Machine will probably still work for restoring your most crucial files I'd imagine.

Thanks for the reply,

I will most likely attempt to set the machine up as new and import my files across afterwards using time machine.

Unless anyone recommends doing so differently due to personal experience.
