Migrating files to a MBA from an iMac - SLOW?

I just bought a MBA today and started the migration process about 1.75 hours ago. I'm doing it via wireless network....it's only a little over 10% done....is this normal??!!

depending on the size of your files. it seems slower than normal, but not much. try reinstalling the os with remote disk, that sucked

Normal. It took me about 12 hours to wirelessly migrate 50G from MB to Air.

Yes Office migrates too. I did have a problem w. Office X not working so had to bite the bullet and load Office '04. Remember, Office looks for # of other computers running same serial # on network. There are a limited number of computers it can be loaded on depending on what version you have. See Office CD sleeve for details.

Yea, you aren't going to get amazing speeds depending on what kind of network you have (b, g, n).

Wow, this is now 15 hours and still only 2/3rds done!!

Come on!!! I want to use it!!!

Wi-Fi is slow.

I get only 300-500 KB/sec on my network (2 airport expresses acting as 1 network). Strange, but if I turn off my second AP, speed goes up to 1-1.5 MB/sec

I'm guessing this is transferring all my photos and music too? Which really isn't what I wanted to do....hope like hell it's not removing them from the iMac!!

I easily got 2x to 3x the speed using the USB ethernet vs doing transfers over WiFi.

Also, the migration assistant doesn't remove anything from the old computer, it just copies it to the new one.

Okay thanks, that makes me feel a bit better that it's not being removed from the iMac. In any case, I guess I can't stop the process now [17 hours so far] it's just that there is a lot [photos and music] that I didn't need transferring.

Finally complete [18 hours]. Still what a sweet process instead of organizing things all over again. That said an option to not transfer some things [in my case photos and music] would be good.

Have to say though that the screen is wonderful compared to my old G4 iBook.

I know this is too late to help, but in the future I've found that transferring files from my iMac to the Air is about 20 times faster than using my Air to transfer from the iMac. This is over wireless.

So if you have files on your iMac you want on your Air, log into your Air from the iMac instead of vice versa.
