Migrating from MobileMe to iCloud

Hello All,

I think I am ready to do the migration from MobileMe to iCloud. I have a few questions about making the transition as smooth as possible and would appreciate any feedback from those who have already completed this.

Here is an overview of my setup.

MobileMe is used primarily for e-mail and to sync Calendar and Contacts. I do use MobileMe Gallery, but I already know the limitation with Gallery and iCloud. MobileMe is used to sync between the home iMac, (2) iPhone 4s and an iPad. On the iMac, I use Apple Mail, iCal and Address Book.

My question involves the iOS devices. I was considering "unsyncing" or logging off MobileMe on the iOS devices before I initiate the iCloud conversion from the iMac. My thought process in doing it this way was to avoiding any sync issues, such as duplicates, etc., on the iOS devices after the iCloud conversion is completed.

Is this even necessary? Is it overkill and I am worrying too much about this process?

My reason for asking is that I had some issues in the .Mac to MobileMe conversion regarding the Calendar.

I have all the necessary backups in the event of any problems.

I would just go into Address Book and iCal and save backups of everything there and then go ahead with the conversion. That way if anything gets screwed up you can just delete all of your contacts and calendars and then re-import from your backups.

It was pretty easy for me. Once you decide to do the transition on the web site. Then next time you go into your iOS Devices they should transition automatically. Now, I think you must have an iOS Device that has the updated Contacts and/or Calendar because it loads them from there, not the web site. The emails are converted on the web site. So make sure your MobileMe Accounts on ALL of your iOS Devices are SYNC with www.me.com and you should be fine.
