Migrating iTunes Data to new Macbook Air

So I had Macbook Pro 13 prior to getting the new Macbook Air..

Everything is in sync except the iTunes data on my Air...

I didn't use Migration utility because I didn't want to completely mirror my old settings...

How do I migrate my iTunes data to my new Macbook Air so that I don't have to resync EVERYTHING that I currently have on my iPhone 4??

All I did was copy the whole iTunes folder from my old computer and replaced the iTunes folder on the MBA. Worked perfectly...

Yes, that's what I did too, but I also exported my playlist and library into a XML file to be safe. iTunes has a built in feature to do that,

That's what I did on my previous macbooks. Open iTunes on the new machine. Then close iTunes. Then simply swap the itunes folder it creates with the one from the old macbook, and reopen iTunes. It then simply reads the itunes library folder, and Bob's your uncle.

Or something like that, anyway.

I posted this elsewhere on the forums and never got an answer.

Does anyone know of a way to create TWO different iTunes libraries from the same source files, one that's the full version and the other thats a "mini" version, and still use both for synching up your iPad/iPhone but on two different machines? I know how to create two different libraries on the same machine, but not on two different machines and still have my iPhone recognize both as "valid" for synchronization purposes. Basically, it wants to synch with one or the other, but not both.

Think of the second one as a "mini" library that just has my iPhone apps, books and videos on it.

Any way to do this? Or is this why Apple is building their mega-cloud service center right now, just to address this kind of future functionality?

Home Sharing?

The easiest way to do it is by using home sharing!
Set up both itunes with your apple itunes store account, turn on home sharing, and then simply drag and drop you entire itunes libary across.

Thats what i did and it worked perfectly!





2010 21.5" iMac
iPad 16GB Wi-Fi
iPhone 3G 8GB
White Macbook 13"

Home sharing only works when you are on the same network. I'm talking about putting a "sync-able" mini iTunes library on my MBA so I can use it for syncing new books and videos to my iPhone when I travel. I won't be on the same network so Home Sharing is useless to me.

At home, my iTunes library stays on my NAS. I have tried to expose my NAS iTunes library to my MBA over the internet. It almost works...but more often than not, I get weird timeout messages. I don't think iTunes is currently designed to work this way.

Apologies - I'm new to Mac & keen to make my new Pro the hub of my little universe. I have a shed load of 'stuff' on my W7 desktop iTunes - mainly ripped CDs but a growing collection of purchased music, lots of video (films & TV shows) and I sync my iPhone to it.
So does the external HDD copy & replace work (by which i mean retain ALL information) when moving from W7?
Any help appreciated as advice I've seen so far is either old or contradictory. Thanks in anticipation.
