Posting this on Yosemite, but if it needs to be moved then please do so.

I want to transfer some, but not all, the programs from my 2008 MacPro to a 2012 MacMini.

Can this selective moving be done with Migration Assistant? Also, I only have one monitor. Do I need to boot into both computers by attaching the monitor to the MacPro to log-in, and then to the MacMini, or can Migration Assistant run just by using an ethernet cable form the logged-in MacMini to a just powered-on MacPro?

Are there other issues with Migration Assistant that I need to be concerned with before doing this?

You do have some control over what comes over with Migration Assistant within very broad categories/folders. For example you can bring in the Documents folder but not the Music folder if you want. But with applications it is all or nothing. You check the box for applications and they all come over.

You will need a monitor to do this as MA has a couple screens you need to click on over on the source machine.
