I bought a new MacPro M2 about two weeks ago and I used the migration assistant to upgrade my new Mac.
I had a 15 inch HP PC and set up the migration to my new Mac last night. I thought it was going to transfer everything on my old PC but I learned that did not happen.

I can't see any documents or any other downloads that it transferred. No bookmarks or Desktop shortcuts, no pics, nothing.

So, what exactly did it transfer while I was asleep last night?

I can't see any progress.

So......I guess I am going to have to tap each document, right click and send it to my new Mac....200, 300 times?

Can I highlight several at a time, or do I still have to do them one at a time?

Previously, I have used a USB stick to transfer data, but I have not done that in several years. The last two times I bought a new PC I took it to a computer store, and he did it.

I am using a USB to USB-C cable.

Am I going about it the right way?

Thanks

BTW, I bought it at Costco for. $1099 which I thought was a good deal. Macs don't go on sale very often. But they were having a back to school sale and this was $150 off the regular price. And I bought a protection plan from Allstate, good for two years for $99. Much cheaper than Apple's program and it covers spills and cracked screens. the sales clerk brought it to my attention. Good deal.

Now, if anyone can help me with transferring data, I would appreciate it.

This article, from Apple's support page, should help answer your questions. It explains what Migration assistant can transfer from your old PC to your new Mac - and where those files were moved.
That article tells you to install Apple's Migration assistant on your old PC, which is what does all that moving from Windows.
You should also notice from that article that you need to be logged in as an admin on your PC...
Preferred method will be connecting an Ethernet cable from your Windows PC to your new Mac. The article explains that you will need a USB to ethernet adapter, as Mac laptops typically do not have built-in ethernet. You could try on Wifi, but file copy can often be really slow (and having an ethernet to USB adapter can sometimes be a handy tool to keep.)

I did everything you suggested, except for the ethernet cable which we cannot do, like you suggested.
The timer suggested it would take 2.5 hours, when I went to bed last night. I don't know how long it actually took though. But it was a long time.
I guess I will be clicking and sending everything one by one tonight.

Okay, I have a new problem

It has to be a simple fix. But it eludes me.

When I type a letter, nothing happens, but I hear a 'pop'.

No letters are produced.

I tried to refresh, and restart, but I can't even do that because it pops, when I hit command R.

Any suggestions?

The "pop" when you try any key, simply means that the keystroke is not accepted, probably because there is something else happening. Look on the screen for any kind of results window, or maybe even an error window of some kind, any window that might be waiting for you to respond in some way. Some of those response windows won't allow you to do anything else until you respond to that window - and clicking/typing anywhere other than that window produces a beep.
If you can't do anything, and there is no apparent "window to respond to", then calmly reach over to the power button, and press/hold the button for about 5 seconds. There's your shutdown. Press the power button again to restart. Then, as you do more, watch for those response windows (they sometimes get hidden when lots of things are happening, and you may be moving various windows on the screen.

Have you now taken some time to look in your own user folder? It's the user folder with your name, in the Users folder. It is also the folder that the system created when you initially set up your Mac. In that folder, you should check in the "Pictures" folder. It will be in your user folder. If you don't see a Pictures folder, then you are not in the correct folder. There is ALWAYS a Pictures folder, unless you moved or deleted it. The migration process should put your pictures in that folder, by default, as pictures are easily identifiable files.
Please, please, please - take some time to look through the other folders in your own user folder. If the migration was started correctly, even taking a long time, then you should find at least some of your files from your PC, in one of those folders inside your user folder, and less likely anywhere else on your new Mac. Obviously, Windows apps can't run on your Mac, so none of the PC apps will be there, but documents, pictures, other types of files should be there, and should be in your own user folder. Double check there - just a tip to keep you from wasting your time when at least some of your files SHOULD have copied to your new Mac.
Good Luck!
