I received my new 2012 iMac this morning and started migration assistant with my MacBook Pro. Everything seemed to be running fine but it seems to have gotten stuck at the same time left for about 15 minutes now. Is this common for migration or should I be concerned?

not sure?

I started a migration today as well from 2008 MBP to 2012 MBP with firewire and it has been over 6.5 hours!!!!! The progress bar is not even one tenth complete. Taking forever!
Keep in mind that I am moving over 160 GB of stuff. (17000 photos)

IS this normal????

Still migrating......

Woke up this morning and the migration is one fourth complete. It has been 19 hours so far.... Keep hanging in there, right? Even if my wife and kids want to kill me?

Someone please advise!

Thanks

It will depend on how much data you are bringing over, but it's not uncommon for this to take over night. I used Ethernet cable on mine and don't remember it taking that long. I wouldn't worry if it is still progressing.

My status is up and running. I decided to not wait around and called Apple. The tech had me kill the migration. Had me skip it and go to desktop and set up a temp user. He then walked me through turning off all the power management on both machines to make sure it wasn't anything like drives going to sleep. Had me repair permissions on my macbook pro and had me boot into the restore utility and restore the ACL permissions on my home folder. I then started the migration assistant again and the second time it ran like a charm. Don't remember the exact time elapsed but it was under an hour. I think my problem on the first attempt was the macbook. It looked like several permissions were repaired. It's only a guess but I suspect that may have been the culprit. End result all the files I needed were transferred and the machine has so far been flawless.
