Hi, I was wondering how smoothly minecraft would run on a rmbp 13. In terms of fps if you could post some examples it would be awesome. Do you play on window VM or on OS.
I am planning on buying one myself. I would consider a game playable > 30. fps. Thanks for your attention and responses.

I personally have a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" with 8gb ram, and with Optifine, I get a good 60 fps on Max Settings. Without Optifine I get about 40ish on max settings.

Yes, the HD4000 on my son's Mac mini runs it fine, although I'd say it gets a bit dodgy if you are looking at extreme worlds. The current MBP's will run it much better than that.

Running a local, dedicated minecraft server Ubuntu, 16GB ram. I play with an Early 2011 15" MBP, 16GB, girlfriend plays with a new 13" MacAir, 8GB and her daughter plays with a modded Acer c720 Acer Haswell, 4GB running only Ubuntu and our daughter has friends log in from everywhere, we typically only have about 15 or so connected at once. The only time I get a hiccup on my 15" is when I set distance to 16 and turn around 180 degrees very quickly. I set it back to 10 or 12 and even that minor lag goes away.

Heck no to windows VM. Just run it in with the Java download. Be sure to use java 7.0 or higher and NOT from Oracle as every HOWTO article describes. Just use the OpenJava.

I run several different versions of Minecraft (Tekkit/FTB/Voltz/custom modpacks) both locally and on a local server on my 2012 non-retina Macbook Pro and can get 60+ FPS with settings on mid - high.
A MBPr should achieve the same and more if it has Intel 4000/Iris Graphics.

I generally run it windowed (900x600) but fullscreen still gets 40+ FPS with the same settings

How much ram do you guys have on your computers to run Minecraft? I figured 8gb would work but maybe 16gb gets better performance?

You can choose 16 if you want too, but on the gaming side and especially minecraft there will be no difference between 8GB and 16GB RAM GB.

Also what version of java are you running? For some reason, even though I have java 7 installed, minecraft will only use Java 6
Btw I get 50 fps on 16 render, if I drop it to 8, I get 70ish fps

Yeah the 70fps sounds better. Yeah I noticed that as well. It just doesn't wanna use java 7...
