Hey all.
I own a Mac Mini mid 2010, and I'd like to replace the ODD with a SSD.
I've searched everywhere and I've seen accessories for the MBP, the Mini 2009 and 2011 models, iMacs... but nothing for the 2010 Mini.

I found a guide of a guy who modifies an enclosure for the MBP in order to fit the 2010 Mini but it doesn't feel as safe as using an specified kit for the actual 2010 Mini.

What am I missing? Is there any easy way I can replace the ODD with a SSD?

Thank you very much.

While that guide looks pretty labor-intensive, there should be no reason it wouldn't work. Honestly the biggest issue is getting the interface board to work. Mounting the SSD is the easy part. Heck, you could use duct tape if you wanted.*

*not recommended :D

yes list that machine on ebay and sell it then buy a base 2011 mac mini and put the second drive inside of it.

I am serious not joking. the only reason to do what you want to do is you must have snow leopard and are not going to run lion or mount lion.

the 2010 mac mini has 2 strong points it has a dvd player and it can run snow, lion, mountain lion, windows 7. you can sell your machine for 500 on ebay no problem and get a base 2011 mac mini.

that is faster by far then the 2010 mini. the only thing it can not do that well without hacks is run snow.

I am trying to explain that the 2010 mini's are in demand for that dvd player and they run snow. pulling the dvd player lowers its value a lot.

mmm... So interesting what you said there.
I'll probably wait to see what the next mini brings to us and if I can afford it I'll sell this 2010 Mini and get a new base one.

Thanks!

Sell this 2010 model when the new 2012 comes out. I'd also imagine the 2010 is valued more than a 2011 model. It's rare I see a 2010 for sale used on craigslist or kijiji.

yeah the 2010 mini has become more valuable due to the dvd player and the way it can do so many osx's. This happened to me with the 2009 iMac I had a 27 inch imac with the better gpu i had apple care I grabbed it in feb 2010 and sold it last dec 2011. The buyer was happy to pay 1500 for it I had paid 1700. he need it to run snow for his programs. so it worked out. I grabbed 2 2010 mac minis and a 32 inch jvc tv. I wall mounted the mini and the tv spent about 1250 and had 250 or so left over. here is a listing for a 2010 mini I sold today. note to mods this is sold I am not selling any minis on ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150847168921#ht_961wt_1019

the ram cost me 35.

the mini cost me 469 nov 2011

the ssd cost me 180.

my cost was 684.

I used it for 8 months. after fees I netted 630 for it.

I paid 54 bucks to use it for 7 or 8 months.

and I still have the 2gb oem ram with the 320gb oem hdd. the snow to lion and the dvd worked out nice for this.
