Mini 2011 second hard drive screws and grommets

Hi. I'm about to install a second hard disk into a 2011 mac mini.
I've bought the cable from MacParts Online.
I was wondering if it's really necessary to install the rubber grommets and screws, as they are really expensive. (about $40). Does the second hard drive fit very loose?
Does anyone know or can measure the size of those grommets?. I'll try to find them in a hardware store.

If you don't want your computer to vibrate from the bare drive touching the chassis, you need the mounting hardware.

So...its a year later and I have the 2012 Mac Mini (i7). I'm trying to do the same, did anyone ever get you those measurements?

I've found the cable for $28 on Amazon, but the grommets and screws would cost an additional $20! Any help is appreciated!

ouch an additional $20? even the OWC data doubler kit would be cheaper.

If you dont have the grommets, the drive might fit loosely on the bracket :\

i bought the OWC kit, as having everything i need to do the job was worth the additional $15-$20 over just the cable for me, but I don't see how it would be TOO hard to run by lows/ace hardware and pick up some small grommets or even something larger and cut them down.

I would just be hesitant to sit a drive in that bracket without anything securing it.

It's not entirely necessary, neither is the whole approach of removing the logic board and power supply from the mac mini when carrying out the upgrade.

You can simply insert the drive (you may want to push the logic board back by a cm or so when doing so) at the bottom of the caddy and the other one on top with the sata cables.

In my experience, when I did my 2011 Mac Mini, I experienced no additional vibrations from the 2 hard drives. As long as you don't plan on waving it around carelessly, and it's sitting stationary, you should be fine.
