mini 2011 server to client - Possible?

I have the top of the line Mac mini 2011 server model and want to yank off the server part and have it just be a client machine.

I tried going into the recovery console and did a fresh forma/install that way but that just put Lion Server back on

Tried the InstallESD.dmg method on a USB but wouldn't install - which I guessed since the new machines have a new Lion build

Is there any why to have a clean install of Lion without the server.app stuff running as well?

I have a 2011 server and a 2011 base mini. I cloned the base drive to the empty hdd on the server. I then booted the server via preferences startup disk I picked the non server osx drive. when the non server osx drive booted I cloned it to the server hdd so I have two osx non server type. i am testing to see what drive i want I may use both and just clone on to the other once a week as a backup.

If you had an external DVD couldn't you just use a Lion disk?

I guess they are needed/useful anyhow for these non DVD Minis? (I'd want one)

Why not just turn off/disable the server app? That's what I did on mine and looks/works just like regular Lion.

Just a followup in case anyone else stumbles upon this

What I ended up doing was going to my MacBook Air (2011) and doing a clean install on it. From there did a time machine backup. Erased the disk on the mini and restore the time machine backup on there.

No Lion Server

The only difference is that Lion Server has the server add on component. If you never activate it then basically you have just Lion with no server. I don't get the point of going through all this. I have a Mac Mini server, but I just didn't activate the server portion and so it just like I have just regular Lion.

These solutions work if you have either a 2011 base mini or Macbook Air. Are their any solutions if you don't have either of these?

I was able to put two 6gbps SSD's in a RAID 0 and get it working but when I did the recovery, it automatically downloaded and installed server again. The server version is MUCH less stable and much more buggy than client. I have tons of experience in just a few short week with lion server on multiple machines and it needs a lot of work. Gotta figure out a way to get client on there...
