Mini 2012 struggling to play BD remuxes?

Hi everyone,

I have the late 2012 i7 Mini (stock HDD, 16GB RAM) and I'm having some problem playing BD remuxes I download from the internet (please see disclaimer below!). It starts ok, but after every couple seconds the video just freezes for a while on a certain frame, gets sort of pixelated and then jumps for another scene a couple seconds later. Then plays smooth for a couple more seconds and it happens again. It's unwatchable.

- I've tried both VLC and MPlayerX, no difference. Maybe I messed up with some settings?
- Nothing else on the background, it happens even after a fresh boot.
- All the files are MKVs, containing the untouched main movie, main audio (usually DTS-HD) and SRT subtitle.
- If I convert them with Handbrake to H264 (or any other format) it plays fine.

So, does anybody know how to fix it?

DISCLAIMER: I do own the physical disks, I only download because I don't have a BD drive to rip them myself. As far as I know this is not illegal here in Brazil.

Do they skip and freeze and jump in the same spots? Check your content it could be bad. I recommend a re download and try a different file.

No, each time I open they skip on different areas. Tested with 3 files already, same thing

My guess is that it's hardware related. My Mini struggles with full HD video thats above a certain quality (as I'm sure your files are seeing as they are BD rips)

No. A mac mini can play full quality bluray rips with absolutely no issues. My old 2009 mini could, and my 2012 mini definitely can. My guess is there may be something wrong with the mkv.

Sounds like a video decoder buffer problem. If you use VLC, set the file cache value in the VLC-preferences to 3000 or 5000 ms (milliseconds) and restart VLC.

iThink XBMC uses hardware acceleration, if XBMC decodes half-HD (720p) or full-HD (1080p) H.264 video.
