Mini 2018 - USB A issue?

Hey guys,

As the title states I installed some new RAM in my Mac mini 2018. Crucial 2666mhz 8gbx2.

It booted up all fine and dandy but when came to login my Logitech mx master mouse and Logitech keyboard are not being deteched.

So the Mac goes to a Bluetooth setup for keyboard.

Other notes...
I have a USB hub plugged into the mini and the power light is lit. So I'm assuming they work?

Pre ram install this wasn't an issue.

I left the mini for a little while and it sleep. Turned it back on with the power button...keyboard and mouse worked fine I checked my ram and saw the 16gb installed. I shut it down to make sure it didn't persist. Same issue again.

I plugged in an old usb keyboard that works on my PC laptop but it doesn't detect on the login screen for the mini.

Plugged my Android phone and iphone thru the hub. You can tell the phones detect a connection but no charging takes place.

Any thoughts? Is this apples way of saying buy our keyboards and mice?

I left the bluetooth assistant running while away from the mini.
And eventually my keyboard and mouse connected.
I put the mini to sleep and waked it with the keyboard and mouse with no issue.

So I ended up connecting my logitech mouse and keyboard using bluetooth.
I stopped using bluetooth because it acts erratic at times.
I read in another thread that erratic behaviour can be the cause of the USB hub.
So I use bluetooth until the USB start

Still no usb activity after a full reboot.

I am now experiencing kernel panics every now and again.

"panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff80200c340f): UUID: E723DDFE-E942-48EF-8E66-8763F8D4D302\nStackshot Reason: Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while entering darkwake on way to sleep."
I have attached the full issue.

If anyone can shed any light would be great.

I am assuming a bad batch of ram because thats the only change in the system.

Do you have a "substitute" mouse and keyboard you could try?

What is the normal method of connection for the keyboard?
Wired into the back of the Mini?
Wired into a hub?
Some other method?

For keyboards, I've always used USB wired, connected to the back of the Mini (mine's a 2012).
Less chance of problems that way.

I use a Logitech MX mouse as well (don't remember exactly which one) -- it has its own wireless receiver, which I plug into the extra USB port on the keyboard.

Erratic Bluetooth and Wifi was caused by one of my two USB-3 hubs, maybe the power adapter. I replaced it with a USB-B hub and now WIFI and Bluetooth are OK (Bluetooth most of the time). The second USB-C hub doesn't seem to interfere.

Before ram everything worked fine. After ram upgrade,,, problems started. Good chance it is the ram (Common denominator).

Have you tried PRAM reset, and run disk utility first aide to repair the disk? Worth a try.

I use the supplied logitech unifiying receiver adapter. (for mouse and keyboard)

Wired into the back of the Mini?
Wired into an extension usb cable that is plugged into the back of the mini. I tried direct into the mini for troubleshooting purposes and the same issue.

I've had some minor USB issues -- and I haven't changed RAM.

Every time I reboot I need to unplug/re-plug the Logitech unifying receiver to get the Logitech software to recognize a wireless trackball. The trackball still works without the software... but the extra buttons don't.

This is not an issue with the 2012 mini. I am guessing Logitech needs to update drivers or something.

Keyboard does not.

I do however have another wired usb keyboard. I was able to set it up once I logged into the mini.
But once again it behaves the same on reboot.

I can plug in a usb flash drive and it detects it.

Having said that I am unable to do the PRAM reset due to this.

Very strange indeed.
Can only be the RAM but is it really defective?
If the machines operates fine when under load. Photoshop, Illustrator, PHPStorm and Visual Studio Code / Xcode runs simultaneously.

I have until jan 31 to return.
I will reinstall the old ram and see if the issue persists.

Its like a carbureted car once its warmed up after a 10-15mins the ports work again properly....lol

Original RAM back in same issue. It's either I messed something up inside or it's just logitech drivers.

I'll keep on Bluetoothing my mouse and keyboard for now. After 15mins or so the unifying receiver shows up.

You might try REMOVING the Logitech mouse/keyboard drivers, and see if that makes a difference.
You never know, it might just fix things.

Use either USB Overdrive or SteerMouse for the mouse -- that's what I do.

I removed logitech options and reinstalled it (twice now). Same after reboot.
The more and more I troubleshoot I believe it might just be usb issue.

Because my wired keyboard works once the USB ports "turn on" per say.
But on reboot the wired keyboard is not detected.
Usb flash drive is now also not being detected.
Same with my iPhone.

So if i do reboot i just leave my iphone plugged in and once it lights up shows its charging I know the ports are ready to be used lol.

No.

Still living with the issue even after i put back the original RAM
I use bluetooth on my mouse and keyboard until the usb becomes active.
