Mini 2018 USB SPDIF w/ 5.1 passthrough or Stereo Out?

Is that possible? I currently have the OCW thunderbolt 3 dock that I used with the MacBook Pro and it had optical out, even though only stereo. Switching to the mini I no longer need the dock and wondering if I should look for USB to SPDIF converter or screw it and just use the stereo out on the mini. I have the VIZIO SB4551-D5 45” with HDMI used up for the TV.

Any advice?

Depends what you are looking to do but you can likely use a hdmi converter with hdmi & optical outputs. I used something like this with an Apple TV when they got rid of the optical port, and I needed optical out to my audio receiver. Good luck.
