Mini 4 yr warranty for $77, should I?

I bought our mini when mac connection had it for $599. I used my AMEX so right now we are covered for 2 years.

I can get square trade warranty for 4 years total (additional 2 years) for $77.

If I did not have coverage from AMEX, I would not hesitate.

I know Mac's in general are very reliable, but 4 years is a long time for something not to go wrong.

does the square deal repair the mini or will it replace it. 3 years and 11 months and the mini parts may be hard to find. Did you ever open the mini or is it stock. SD will only warranty the OEM parts (I think).

Squaretrade will either repair the item or refund your orig. purchase price. I believe once you send it in, they will repair it within 5 days. If they can't then you get your purchase price back.

Not sure about the OEM parts, but I bet you are right. No plans to upgrade the HD to SSD as this is the wifes/daughters computer.

Of course the greater percentage of Mini owners will have moved on to a more powerful Mini before the 4 years have expired.

I had my first Mini for just around 3 years. Current one is approaching 2 years now.

If this my mac I would agree, but the wife and daughter do not care. As long as they can get online.

In 20 years of computer buying, I've never ever bought an extended warranty and I've never needed one. I have machines from the mid 90's that still work fine. The only product that failed within a 3 year period was an Apple monitor from the 90's, but Apple replaced it free of charge despite being out of warranty.

If extended warranties made financial sense for consumers, companies wouldn't offer them because they wouldn't make financial sense for them. That said, you could be unlucky, but the odds are clearly in your favor.

The previous post says pretty much everything that I would've said.

I'd add only one thing... Minis aren't very powerful at the moment that you buy them so, four years later, they're gonna be pretty rubbish. Now, if your computing needs are very simple and you think that such a machine will still have value to you, maybe the warranty is worth the outlay. But as soon as the AppleCare runs out on my top-end iMac, it's getting replaced.

I ended up getting the warranty. Paying $3.20/month during the last 2 years for the warranty.

My 27" iMac has AC. If I sell it, will do so with a few months of AC left.

Bought the 3 yr ST warranty including accidental coverage for the MBP. That one was not cheap at $169, did not buy it with amex. Plan on keeping it till at least then.
