If so, in your opinion is it worth it? My iPad mini 5 is down to 89% battery capacity according to coconut battery so am debating on whether to get a battery replacement or to go ahead and buy the new mini. Thanks in advance.

My iPad Mini 5 is main and only iPad but I will not be upgrading to the Mini 6.

I'm the oddball that actually prefers the "classic" ipad chassis and along with it, the headphone jack, lightning port, no camera bump, support for smartcovers, and support for the Pencil 1.

But having said that, if I didn't have those preferences, I would upgrade... it looks like a very nice option.

I'm considering it. My iPad 5 has cosmetic damage. I may wait for the holiday return period, to have more time to try it out before making a decision.

I did upgrade to the 6 then returned it and went back to the 5.
The 6 wasn’t for me.
you won’t really know until you try it yourself.

I needed more storage than 64gb but not 256gb.128gb would have been perfect.
The bezel pad mini ?
oh well I will wait for mini 7.

I upgraded. Largely used for note taking and consumption. I use iPad 12 M1 as my “workstation”, remote desktop etc… I’ve been spoiled with Promotion, so scrolling and stuff seems choppy.

Overall quite impressed so far, just wish apps were optimized for the canvas space, but it’s just a matter of time

In a couple of weeks (when I get paid), I’m upgrading from the 5 to the 6. At BestBuy, I’ve checked it over and I really like it. I don’t see either the jelly scroll or the poorer screen. It looks very good.

I upgraded from 5 to 6 just because I like to have the latest device. My old one always becomes my backup. I consider myself an iPad Mini expert as it is my primary device since they first came out with it and I gave up full sized iPads for good. It goes everywhere with me, and I use it instead of my phone for pretty much everything except phone calls and music for my car. I absolutely adore this device.

Having said all that, I don’t see an overwhelming reason for most people to upgrade. For my usages the 5 is just as good as the 6. In fact, the 6 running iOS 15 is slower at browsing with Safari than my 5 running iOS 14. Media-heavy pages are slower to load. Although the processor is supposed to be much faster I personally see no real performance difference between the two in my normal daily usage. The old touch ID is just more convenient than the new one. The 6 is also thicker and heavier than the 5. The speakers are better on the 6 than on the 5.

Just my experience, but unless you need an Apple Pencil 2, don’t bother upgrading. And I say this as someone who absolutely adores the iPad Mini, and has used one about 10 hours a day since they came out.

Five: 0.66 pound (300.5 grams)

Six: 0.65 pound (293 grams)

Ah….probably it’s the new case I’m using on the 6. Very few case choices at this point.

Yes, indeed…… My 6 weighs 439g with the case, and the 5 weighs 419g with the case. Interestingly enough, without the case the 6 was actually a few grams lighter than the 5, 298 versus 306.

I didn’t upgrade, but I did give my Mini 5 to my daughter a year ago. I’ve been waiting for the 6 and promised myself I would get it if it had the new form factor.

That day came and I am just waiting on my case today to use it as my go to iPad. I really loved my 5 and was sad to let it go, but I’m excited for my 6 despite all I’ve been reading.

Keeping my 5. Not a fan of the touch id in the home button, as it is so annoying to use, at least in my usage, on my Air 4, and with this jelly scrolling thing, even if I wanted to upgrade I think it is wise to wait for that to be sorted out.

Returning the 6 and keeping my 5 rather than trading it in. The jelly effect kills the screen experience so it’s overall a downgrade despite everything else being improved.

I’m furious with Apple for going so cheap with the screens. The mini isn’t upgraded often and this is a wasted cycle.

Me too.

All this waiting for a night and day upgrade to my beloved Mini 5's -- and the 6 ain't it (at all)

Just a massive disappointment given how infrequently the Mini line gets updated.

At this point I'd simply take the Mini 6 as is with the screen oriented the "old way" so the jelly would hopefully not be noticeable (would be in landscape again) -- I never notice jelly on my Mini 5. Can we just have it back that way?

(we can't - would take a redesign I think)
