Mini ACD 23 problems in windows

New mac mini owner who installed windows xp.

I have a 23" Apple cinema display and in windows if I try to set the resolution to anything lower, I get black bars surrounding the windows ie. The screen does not cover the whole screen.

Whats wierd is that in osx this works fine.

Is there any solution?

I want to run it at a lower res, cause my eyes are getting bad.

hi! instead of trying to run windows at a lower resolution, I'd suggest you increase the size of the fonts that windows uses. You can also increase the size of the icons on the desktop. When you increase the size of the fonts, most programs (like office for example) will also increase the size of the icons in the program accordingly.

Increasing font size in web browsers is as simple as holding down the ctrl key and spinning your mouse wheel up or down, but its a bit trickier to change settings for all applications. I'll try summarise!

To change fonts and icons:

right click the desktop and select display
click the 'appearance' tab. You can change the default size of your fonts here

to change the icon size, click advanced, select icon from the 'item' menu and change the size to 64 or 128. click ok and ok again.

There is a program which can magnify a portion of the screen. Click start, accessories, accessibility to find it. Alternatively press windows-R (alt-R on a mac keyboard) and type 'magnify'

Hope something here helps you out! no reason to change resolutions. This way you can see text and graphics easier AND use the whole of your display.

^ I agree with foxxlet, running at a lower resolution is not the right way to handle fonts/icons that are too small, especially with LCDs that only look their best when run at their native (highest) resolution. You can increase both font and desktop icon size from the display properties panel.
