Hi there,

I bought an ipod mini a couple months back as an open box. Well the battery doesn't seem to last much longer than 4 hours, and if i don't charge it every day (even without using it) the battery goes dead.

Like for instance, i fully charged it 2 days ago. went to the gym and used it for about an hour. came home and didn't put it on the charger , and today it's totally dead.

Is this normal?

I make sure the backlight and all click noises are off. What can I do? I thought it was normal, but someone told me theres lasts much longer, and I know that i cant take it back to best buy being that it has been 3 months.

thanks

first thing you need to do is this:

fully charge the iPod
make sure the Equalizer is off, clicker is off, every extra setting...
then put an album on repeat
let the battery drain from the whole ablum being repeated, see how long the battery lasts

if it has degrated i think 80% of the apple stated battery life i believe you can get it replaced so long as it is under warranty still

I suggest bringing it to the store you bought it at (assuming it's an Apple Store). That kind of life loss isn't generally normal, but should be somewhat expected from a demo model.

If going to the store isn't convenient atm, or you want to play with it, also try: hard resetting it (I believe that on the mini, you still do this by plugging it into the charger, but not the computer, toggling the hold switch on and then off, and then holding the select or center and menu or top portions of the clickwheel down for ten seconds), and if that doesn't help, reformatting it with the iPod Software Updater.

There are sometimes little things that can cause these kinds of issues. After the first time I tried the alarm clock on my iPod, it somehow got turned back on. When the alarm goes off, it actually makes the iPod play, if there was a currently playing song when it went to sleep, even if the alarm is just the beep. So when the alarm goes off, the iPod starts playing and drains itself completely.... :( Of course that's just stupid me....
