mini cds and dvds into slot loader

I have a video camera that burns to mini dvds (80mm I think). But I can't put these into the slot loading dvd drive on my macbook pro, obviously. Is there some sort of adapter that I can use... something that I can snap the small dvd into so that my drive will accept it?

Yes, you can purchase adapters to do this, but I'd still be really hesitant to use one in a slot loading drive. Maybe someone with more experience with them can weigh in. My parents got a mini-DVD video camera, and while they have no interest in pulling the footage onto their computer, I'd be interested in hearing more about it.

My recommendation would be to get an external tray-loading drive that accommodates the mini DVDs.

I just can't believe that my $3,000 laptop can't do something this simple... sometimes macs really piss me off.

If you want the sleek, inch thick laptop, you don't have much of a choice there...you need to have slot-loading drive.

The Nintendo Wii can handle all media sizes in its slot drive. Come on Apple...

I'm sure if Apple did a survey asking people wether they would prefer the sleek optical drives, or prefer a slot loading drive so they can import mini-DVD's almost everyone would opt for optical. (heh, see what I did there?)

Mini-DVD's really aren't that widely used. As stated before, just get an external slot loading drive.

It doesn't have to be an either-or choice. Like another poster said, the Wii is capable of doing that, and it has a slot load drive.

I'm not a Wii owner, and I'm not sure I'd be able to get this info without ripping my Wii apart even if I were, but does anyone know the size of the Wii drive? Specifically, is it 9.5 mm high like the MB/MBP drives? (I know, it's mounted vertically on the Wii, but you know what I mean.)

I suspect that it is thicker than the thin drives used in Apple's notebooks, but I could be wrong. In fact, it would be great if I was wrong and it was just a matter of using the Wii's technology for the next generation of slot-loading drives in Apple notebooks.

Nintendo has the solution ... Now it's just a matter of fitting that solution into the form factor of Apple's notebook lineup.
