I know not to put the mini dvd disks into my TiBook, but how do I view and edit my movies on my Mac that I took with my mini dvd camcorder?? I have an STV-250N cable that comes with the camcorder, but there doesn't seem to be any USB type hook up?

Any thoughts??

Perhaps you can buy an external USB dvd drive that comes with a tray and view the disc with that?

As you know Macs are very small, so they can't afford to put in a tray loading drive.

Could there be any kind of enclosure that you put the mini disc into, so the mini disc will go into the slot loading drive?
No. I get what you're talking about, like a plastic thing that the mini-DVD pops into to make it a full-size DVD, but at such spinning speeds the insert would pop off. It would wreak havoc on your drive and then you'd have a nice rain of pointy DVD plastic spouting onto you. If there actually are any, I'd strongly discourage against them.

You can get external DVD drives really cheap just about anywhere. Amazon and eBay are good places at which to start.

You're going to have to get an external tray-loading drive. You can edit video shot on DVD camcorders (I've done it for clients several times), but it's not exactly a straightforward task. DVD-camcorders aren't really a good choice if you're planning to edit the video you shoot with them. A miniDV or Digital8 camcorder is a much better choice for that. Of course, you've already got a DVD camcorder, so I guess you should just make do. Next time you buy a camcorder though, strongly consider one that uses tape.

In order to edit your footage, you're going to have to rip the dvd to your hard drive then demux it, then decompress it, then (possibly) resync the audio with the video. This process results in a quality loss, especially if you burn the result back to DVD because you've uncompressed and then recompressed previously compressed footage.

Actually, what I want to do is have the capability to copy the dvdI take for other family members.
