Am I able to connect my MacBook Air early 2015 (thunderbolt 2) to a recent LG LPS LED monitor using a mini display port to HDMI cable?

I previously had the display hooked up via a mini display to D-SUB and it was working, but the monitor would turn on and off if I started up other peripherals. So I figured the mini-display to HDMI would be a better connection.

Do I need reset anything on my macOS?

I am using a LG 22MP58VQ-P monitor, MacBook Air Early 2015, macOS Sierra.

Thanks for any help, I thought this would be plug and play, but not today... :)

Ok thanks ROK,
When I connect the new Mini to HDMI cable, the second LG monitor turns on and off, the LG screen is a purplish colour while the pixels are skewed and blurry.
Do I need to change any settings on my macOS to remove the old D-Sub configuration?
Is there any else I can try?
Thanks again for anybodies time.

I don't have the same set-up as you. I do have my display settings to mirror. it takes 30 - 60 seconds for everything to work. One or both displays go off. Then, things slowly appear.
