I have had the 1.66 Ghz Mac Mini for quite some time. It worked great, but I figured I should get the new $599 early 2009 model. I am in the process of adding Ram and a new 7200 RPM Hardrive. The new Mac Mini is much faster and I am pleased.

Anyway, I have a Samsung 32" LN-83241D Television. I have had it hooked up DVI-DVi on the old Mac Mini. I had to tweak the resolution with DisplayConfigX. I am not in front of the TV now, but the setting I got to work is somewhere around 1248 x 640. It looks good, but there are some lines that are off the screen, I cannot make it fit perfectly. I noticed when I hooked up the mac mini to the VGA port, it looked like it fit perfectly but the resolution did not look as good.

Here is my question. With the new Mac Mini I have it setup as Mini DVI - DVI on the TV. I am having the same issues with the screen not fitting perfectly.

If I buy the Mini DisplayPort - will this fix the issue?

I have the option of either Mini Display to VGA - or Mini Display to DVI. I read somewhere that it pushes a better resolution. Any advice? Any Thoughts? HELP?

I always thought that DVI was supposed to fit without adjustments on supported resolutions. I guess the key is to look up what resolutions your TV supports. If its 1080p, you should be able to do 1920x1080 if I am not mistaken. 1080i would do 1366x768, etc. My 2009 Mac Mini outputs at 1080p via the Mini DisplayPort just fine. That might be a route you should go.

I have my 2009 Mini hooked up to my Samsung 52" 1080P LCD and mine is hooked up with the mini-dvi to dvi. Actually mine is running through my Denon 3808ci receiver that is set with upscaling off, and my picture fits my screen just perfect.
It took me awhile to get it hooked up though, make sure that you use the HDMI 1 input into the Samsung, as it states in the user manual.
Trial and error eventually paid off for me...

Thanks

I cannot find any specific info on the TV - NOTHING ONLINE, unreal. Anyway, I know the max is 720. The back of the TV has HDMI Hooked up to port 1, and the DVI port 2 - to Mac Mini DVI.

I was thinking that the Mini Displayport might just fix the issue all together.

As it is now, the screen looks ok, but top menu bar is completely gone on the TV Screen. And the Bottom Menu Bar cuts off on the left hand side. Any more help or thoughts would be appreciated.

You could try mini displayport to HDMI. From what I understand, both DVI and HDMI are supposed to automatically fit your screen, adjustment free. VGA may require adjustments, and thus the "Auto" button on many TV's. Did you try setting the resolution to 1366x768?

No, you will have the same issues there. The problem is that the TV is overscanning the signal. Try searching these forums or google overscanning Mac. That should point you in the right direction.
