Mini DisplayPort in the new iMac 5k?

Hi there,

I recently bought myself a iMac 5K, and since I have two 4K monitors from Asus I want to connect them. I've ordered two Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapters and plugged them in, and it all seems to work fine, but... I've pluggede the cables in the Thunderbolt port on the iMac, since I couldn't seem to find any Mini DisplayPorts? How come that work? Could I just use it in the thunderbolt ports or?

Because Thunderbolt ports are also Mini DP ports with DP 1.2 protocol.

Yes, I do that with my 2012 rMBP. It only has thunderbolt ports, but its driving my 24" ACD
