So I bought a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter online, however had no luck getting it working properly. The picture will appear on the TV for a split second before going blank, and I can hear audio crackling too. When the picture does appear, everything looks fine.

HDMI cable is working fine with other equipment. I've read about problems with mDP to HDMI, but most were from 2009, and I was hoping that everything would work now.

The adapter I got from Amazon - it isn't the most expensive one out there (Akord).

Who has this working, how did they get it working, and what is their setup/adapter?

I have virtually the same set up as you, and I've got it working great. I doubt the adaptor is the problem from what you are saying - unless you got a bogus one. What TV and Mac are you trying to hook up?

FYI I'm using a Samsung HDTV with a 2011 MBA. The adaptor is a different brand but apart from the name on the side it looks identical to yours. I had to change a setting on my TV to get it to work properly. Had to change the HDMI input to PC or something... can't remember off the top of my head now.

Hooking it up to a Yamaha RX-471 home cinema amp then to a 46" Sony TV from a 2011 15" MacBook Pro. I don't need to change any input settings on the amp or telly though - my friend's laptop has HDMI out and his works fine using my setup.

I think it was just a crappy adapter that has bad chips in it/static issues.

I've mailed the adapter back to Amazon and will buy this one by Neet instead - it's top rated and has lots of reviews, unlike the one I bought which has 0 reviews. Fingers crossed this one actually works..

Sounds like a plan... mine is Neet too so I can vouch for that one.

This one works fine, in case anyone runs into similar problems!
