Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter

Amazon sells the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter adapter by PTC. Anyone with any experience with this adapter or the same adapter of another brand? I was wondering if the mac picks up the right resolution from the cable.
 
HDMI is DVI. The adapter is nothing more than two different shaped ports with wires in between. There is nothing to affect the resolution or how the Mac sees the monitor.
