Mini-DVI to Video not compatible with Mac Mini 2009

Just a warning, I bought a Mac Mini (2009) and wanted it to hook it up to my TV. My TV does not have HDMI or DVI inputs so I bought a Mini DVI to Video adapter from Apple.

But I could not get it to work, then I googled for it and it seems this adapter does not work with 2009 Mac's since it does not output an analog signal anymore!

So anyone that wants to hook up his new Mac to an older TV set with the Video adapter, you are warned.

I guess i'll have to buy a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and then a VGA to SVIDEO converter..

Yep, I found this out for a friend with a White MacBook Nvidia. Only VGA analog output, no composite or s-video. Kinda a bummer for my friend who wanted to connect to a non-HDTV.

Here is a possible solution

The new Mac Mini will not work with Mini-DVI to VGA and then VGA to Video or Mini-DVI to DVI and then to Video because all of those connections are digital, not analog. The regular video cable, whether you are using s-video or composite cable, they are both analog, therefore they will not work with the new Mini-DVI port at all.
The one possible solution for this might be to use Mini Displayport to VGA because on Apple's site it says that it does provide analog video out. Therefore, all you would need is to get Mini-Displayport to VGA or maybe even DVI, and then VGA or DVI to Video. It should work.
If someone does try this option please let me know because I'm looking to buy a Mac Mini, but I want to make sure that I can connect it to a standard TV.

I already bought a Mini Display port to VGA yesterday. Just need to buy a VGA to SVHS/SVIDEO or Composite convertor, if I can find one...

I just called AppleCare and the guy tested a brand new Mac Mini with Mini-DVI to Video adapter. He put me on hold while he tested it with a regular SDTV and he said that it works fine. He also said that there might be some settings that need to be changed in order for it to work, but he said that he just plugged it in and it worked. He told me to call them if I can't get it to work with the Mini.
I'm looking to buy a new Mini, but I need to answer this question before I do.
It's kind of strange that it worked for him. I also asked him if he tested it with one of the new Minis with mini-dvi to video adapter to a standard tv and he said yes. So at this point I really don't know what's going on. Maybe there is some software/firmware update that needs to be downloaded?

Sorry to be somewhat cynical, but you caled Apple care, and the guy happened to have a 2009 Mac Mini, a video adapter, and a standard, non digital TV? It sounds somewhat weird to me, especially considering the fact that I am one of the ones with a non-functioning Mac Mini. I have done a bit of research tonight, and have found noone to make this work, other than the mysterious tech, who happened to have a room full of the appropriate equipment....

And maybe he did, but if so, I am willing to bet he didn't try to hook up to an analog TV....

The Apple cable for miniDVI to composite video will not work with the 2009 Mac minis (ie any mini with a mini DVI port). It requires signals from the chipset and the new chipset does not have those signals.
