i am looking @ a 2 year old mini 1.42GHz, 1280MB ram, SuperDrive, firewire, 2 usb ports, 80GB $325.00

want to know if this is worth getting for running plex. i will upgrade the ram to 4gig and add a external drive but concerned if this will work as a HTPC.

Thanks for your advice.

It will be ok but not if you intend on playing high def rips. Also, keep in mind that the consensus here seems to be that anything below 1.86 is a bad buy for a htpc. Read through these forums and you'll see.

If you can swing a little bit more $, keep an eye on the Apple Store for refurb Minis. I just picked up the base model (2.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HD) for $499 with free shipping--another 4 GB of RAM will cost you about $70. Faster CPU, better GPU, 3 more USB ports, FW 800 and 802.11n--well worth the extra $175, IMO.

ok... I had an offer of a 1.6GHz Intel Core Solo, Memory 2GB, 533 MHz DDR2

250.00

I know this is cheaping out but I am a bit strapped

Thanks for the info all. Guess I will just wait until i can spare a few more coins for one of the refurbish units...

Thanks again
