I have just order a 2Gb kit from crucial to upgrade my mini since it's been feeling a little sluggish lately. Since i'm popping the lid i was wondering if i would get much of a boost upgrading the stock disk to a 120Gb 5400 rpm? I don't need the space since i run all my storage externally it's just the performance boost of going 4500rpm - 5400rpm i fancy (since i'm used to using my wifes g5 2.1ghz downstairs). Has anyone else done similar ?

which Mini. The intel Mini has a 5400RPM SATA drive and the PPC Mini doesn't support 2GB to my knowledge.

What about a 7200? Just a thought to complicate things. I am curious about the answer for my MB.

It's a "stock" core solo.

You likely already have a 5400 R.P.M. drive in there. Even many of the older PowerPC Mini's came with those. Mine has one despite specs saying it would come with a 4200 R.P.M. drive.

All the Intel Mini's are supposed to have a 5400 in them already.

But, from all my years working with and even building computers professionally, I can tell you that I have always noticed a significant boost going from 5400 to 7200 R.P.M. drives.

Of course, going to 7200 in a laptop drive (which is what the Mini takes), will mean trading-off maximum size a little. But, the performance boost will be quite noticeable.

Of course, a 7200 may run a bit warmer. So, expect that your fans may run a little more in the Mini (not much air-space in there).
