Mini - HDMI sharpening UGLY

So I own a 2006 Mac Mini that has been used in the family room hooked up to the HDTV (52"). It looked great using a DVI > HDMI cable. I recently purchased the latest (2011) base Mini, and have it hooked up straight to the HDMI on both devices. No TV settings were changed, but the Sharpness settings are EXTREMELY high and it makes reading text very very hard.

Troubleshooting I have already done:
-reset the TV sharpness settings (the 2006 mini with DVI adapter looks great still)
-I looked for screen sharpening settings in OSX but didn't pull up anything
-tried quite a few google searches, and on Apple forums

Anyone else have this problem? It looks terrible really, and browsing the web for YouTube/Hulu makes it really hard to read. Any help is appreciated!

PS - I switch to the AppleTV and it looks fine.

What kind of TV do you have? I have a Vizio VO320 32", the resolution by default is 1366x768, the sharpness is max, and the text looks great.

I have similar issues i suppose. I wouldn't go as far to say ugly, and its been getting better with tweaking settings.

However, does anyone have any recommendations or words of advice as far as video settings using direct HDMI-HDMI on a TV set? Resolution wise and such?

(just got my mini, and LOVE it!)

Changing the settings to 720p seemed to help A LOT with mine. Windows are bigger (system faults as well) as compared to 1080p obviously, but everything seems a lot more easy on the eyes.

Well changing the resolution to 720p is not an option no point owning an HDTV and use it in 720p. The text looks better, but that doesn't solve the problem. I guess I'll have to resort back to MDP

Ya i ended up getting a monitor instead and plugging it in through DVI, quality is leaps and bounds better. Was just reading a lot of "tv simply wont give same results as dedicated monitor", made the switch and held true. Monitor/TV aside, DVI in general seems to produce better results than HDMI-HDMI as well.
