Hi,

I have an iMac 27" of 2013:

Model Name:iMac
Model Identifier:iMac12,2
Processor Name:Intel Core i5
Processor Speed:3,1 GHz
Number of Processors:1
Total Number of Cores:4
L2 Cache (per Core):256 KB
L3 Cache:6 MB
Memory:4 GB
Boot ROM Version:IM121.0047.B29
SMC Version (system):1.72f2

I'm using it with an external SSD HD of 225 GB + iMaC 1TB HD. I use it mainly for Video and Photo editing.
Now, notwithstanding SSD HD is getting slow.

I was wondering if any of you can advice on using the iMac just as a scree, or even better combine computing power, with a mini mac and using SSD HD as hard drive and iMAC 1TB HD.
Would this configuration be enough for a FCP video editing ?

Br,
Vincenzo

How full is the SSD you have now?
You should have at least 10-20gb of "free space" on it.

142 GB free space on SSD

Memory:4 GB

Quite possibly, there's your problem. 4GB for a video editing machine?

You can probably verify this with Activity Monitor-- look at memory pressure.

While the latest intel chips are quite good at compressing, and decompressing the latest video codecs (10 bit HEVC or h265 ), the mac mini hasn't been updated since 2014, and doesn't have these spiffy new features....

How is the ssd connected to the imac? Thunderbolt?
