Im thinking about getting a Mini and hooking it up to my tv with an eyeTV hybrid to use as a tuner (cable bill is out of hand). Couple ?s. Would a few year old Mini with the G4 1.42 processor handle video decently at all (downloaded movies, etc), and will that affect the cable I run into it with the eyetv (gonna cancel all my premiums, dvr, lose the cable box etc. but will keep the very basic cable). Does anyone have a mini with that chip in it? Happy with it? Or does anyone know of a mini with that chip or higher for sale?

Does anyone use the eyetv with a mini as a media center? If so, how do you like it. Help me out here!

Thanks

As much as I love PPC, go for at least an Intel Core Duo.

I think you will be fine, using EyeTV as a basic DVR, and guide system.

However, We have a mac Mini G4 at work, and it has trouble watching Hulu, so your milage may vary.

I use my new 2.26 Mini with EyeTV pulling in digital hi def programming over the airwaves, and it's incredible. Although not as a media center, it's all part of my every day desktop world. These 2 products seem to be made for each other.

Im not sure if I would want to use a PPC Mini. Like the other guy said, look for a Intel Core/Duo/C2D Mini. In fact, the prices are very similar (if you are buying on eBay). A PPC Mini would be great for somebody that needs web browsing and music and such. Whatever you do wind up getting, max the RAM out.

Thanks guys. I would obviously rather have the C2D in my mini but a friend has the one with the PPC and will sell it to me insanely cheap. So thats why I was asking.

is it possible to put an C2D chip in the PPC based mini?

Nope, not in any way possible. They're totally different system architectures from top to bottom.
