I got a Newegg Gift card for Christmas and want to use it to upgrade my Late 2009 Mini from 2GB to 8GB.

On Newegg, the 2x4GB kit is $121.99, but the individual 4GB sticks are only $50.99. If I'd buy 2 of the individual sticks, they should work just as well as the pack would, right?

I thought I was seeing something wrong with a $20 difference between the 2 pack and the individual. Guess not.:)

I appreciate ya, Hellhammer! I'm gonna stick with the Crucial brand, but thanks for looking out.

you will waste money if you don't buy these sticks.

micron and crucial are the same company. but it is your money not mine. code byebye2010 gives you 10 bucks off. p.s. I have put these in dozens of mac minis all work.

That is a great deal, but Hellhammer's right, they won't take my Newegg GC. Gotta say I am pretty stoked about $100 for 8GB RAM. Prices have fallen so much lately.

BTW, are you the same Philip from 123MM?

yes and I am one and the same.
I go to this site a lot more since I grabbed a mac pro.

I am sorry I missed the gift card line. I am too tired from shoveling snow. 31 inches in my home town of Howell NJ!

As for the 2009 mini using 8gb yes they had the EFI update in fall of 2009 and now all come with the update in them if you buy a 2009 mini at the refurb store.

^^Glad to see ya here. Your posts there have been very helpful to me, so thanks! Have fun with your shovel...:p

From EveryMac's site:

The "Early 2009" and "Late 2009" configurations -- released March 3, 2009 and October 20, 2009, respectively -- use 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMMs and officially support a maximum of 4 GB of memory. However, as first reported by MacminiColo and confirmed by site sponsor OWC the "Early 2009" models unofficially can use 8 GB of RAM after applying EFI Firmware Update 1.2 and the "Late 2009" models unofficially support 8 GB of RAM by default (as the EFI firmware already is updated).
